Just like a coin, altrusim also have 2 sides. The one can give you perk and the other side can lead you to get self-disaster that outcoming into a greater harm.

Do you ever heard about altruist/altruism? so what altruism is?

Altruism is the principle and moral practice of concern for happiness of other human beings and/or animals, resulting in a quality of life both material and spiritual. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures and a core aspect of various religious traditions and secular worldviews, though the concept of “others” toward whom concern should be directed can vary among cultures and religions. In an extreme case, altruism may become a synonym of selflessness which is the opposite of selfishness.

Midly speaking, altruism is an ideology when you want to sacrifice yourself for another people interest(sometimes it also can be implement for another life beings not only for humans). It means you sacrifice your time, either material for someone life’s. Sacrifice also mean that you also want to risking your happiness in order to help someone else. But why some people choose to be an altruist even though by sacrificing him/her self?. Simply because being altruist sometimes is someone needs. Its their needs to always help other people, a person that full of desire and eager to help others. They will feel satisfied or even happy because help others people and might be sad and feel something wrong whenever they don’t help other people.

In another type, there is reciprocal altrusim. So what is it?

“Reciprocal altruism” is a term used by evolutionary biologists and psychologists to characterize the decision to help with an expectation that one will receive some benefit or payoff to oneself. Even when people don’t expect recognition or reward for a good deed, however, they often feel energized and happy afterward, a sensation sometimes called the “helper’s high.”

I sure that some of you are mostly being the reciprocal one. Like the moment you want to help others you also expecting a payoff. For e.g. like when you support your friend or even being their suppport system, you always expected that this thing would be vice versa. But sometimes, it doesn’t.

But even at the very worst it doesn’t goin to be vice versa as “they” wish, they still want to do it anyway. They still want to contribute with someone life, want to be such a superhero whenever the other feelin bad or something, or as simple as they want to accompany you to just chill at cafe or eat some fast food to make you not feel lonely. And because they were altruist, their source of happiness simply coming from helping other people even disturbing their own studying schedule or their quality time with their self. That’s how an Altruist work.

But how altruism can lead you to get self disaster that can outcoming into a greater harm?

If you are the reciprocal one, so you expecting the payoff itself. Somepeople sometimes didn't understand that their support system also need them to do the same thing. Some of them were just take benefit and go to the nowhere. If this things happen moreover will just make you feel that you are being used. You will dissapointed and start thinking like “what is my fault?” but the fact that it is not your fault, it is their fault that not give you payoff for what you have done for them. Insecurities will accompany you all day long. Depressed, feelin lonely and another bad vibes will be the things that always stuck in your head. Those bad vibes only make you feel bad and disturbing your activity or even your entire life. All the time and all the sacrifices felt so much useless.

But let say you are not reciprocal. You still can get the self disaster too. Simply because the moment when you already being a “superhero” for everyone’s life, everyone will put a high expectation on you. Like they think you will always heard them anytime and support them anytime. But it will not last long. What you will gonna get is just exhausted of helping others. Even you got happiness from helping others, it will be such an unworthy happiness comparing to how much effort that you give. How much time you give for them, how much chance you let them to heard their stories, etc. You will just ended up dying with yourself inside.

So, are you an altruist ? or not?
